What is the reason you love teaching journalism?
It’s different every day, and the creativity of teenagers never fails to amaze me!

What is the most important lesson a student has ever taught you?
Don’t assume you know about a student’s home life. A staffer at a mostly affluent school who always dressed nicely & said & did the “popular, wealthy kid things” asked for a ride home one day. Her ramshackle house had strips of plastic instead of a door. I had no idea she lived in poverty.

What is the most important element to a successful program?
Patience & organization

Describe your favorite lesson to teach.
Basic layout design – draw a rectangle on your layout (large). Add an eyeline, add 4 more photos, add a headline, story & captions. The “aha” moments on students’ faces as it all “clicks” gets me every time.
