Why is journalism important?
It opens doors for kids who may not have ever considered doing something creative and important. It also teaches them responsibility, communication and how to speak with others. I tell them all the time to research, research, research, and they discover new things they probably would have not learned in any other class.
What’s the biggest struggle you’ve had to overcome as a teacher?
Students not understanding just exactly how important meeting deadlines can be. It’s something I will probably struggle with the rest of my journalism teaching career.
Who are your biggest influencers as a teacher?
My English teachers, Mrs. Fee and Mrs. Crow
